Old Algiers
RiverFest™ is presented annually to celebrate the cultural
contributions of Old Algiers. This growing festival, now in its
seventh year, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditional
jazz and other indigenous sounds that came of age along the banks
of the Mississippi River. A FREE authentic
New Orleans cultural experience that features performances by some
of the top names in traditional jazz, Gospel choirs, brass bands
and Mardi Gras Indians, RiverFest™ also offers local cuisine,
local and regional arts and crafts and children's activities along
the levee near the Canal Street/Algiers Ferry Landing.

Jazz
Notes Classroom Program
The classroom program is available to any school. It includes lesson
plans for lower elementary, middle school and high school students.
As a culmination of the lessons, local musicians will visit the
schools to perform and explain the influence of early jazz sounds
and rhythms on their music.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Presenting a festival, even a small one, requires a lot of resources.
Sponsors are key to any event such as this. Old Algiers RiverFest™
is seeking sponsors who see the value of promoting the rich jazz
tradition that came from Old Algiers in the first half of the 20th
century and who can benefit from the audiences that it reaches.
